Every
car owner is familiar with the term miles per gallon. It affects every
driver on the road. Even if you do not know the precise number of miles
your vehicle achieves for every gallon consumed, you can probably make
an educated guess since you have seen the countless car commercials
saturating the airwaves with claims of setting new fuel efficiency
standards.
But what happens when automobiles no longer run on gas? What universal
measurement will prospective car buyers compare in order to determine
which vehicle is the most cost efficient? What will be the new MPG? |

|
As the automobile industry steadily moves toward electric vehicles,
consumers must transform their line of thinking to process this
technological evolution. Thus, calculating cost per mile (CPM) will
soon supplant the current standard of miles per gallon averages. This
is because electricity obviously cannot be measured in gallons, but is
instead measured in cents per kilowatt. Right now a vehicle that
averages 20 miles per $2 gallon is considered to be relatively fuel
efficient since it achieves 10 cents per mile.
With some hybrid models averaging 30 or 40 miles per gallon, that
average is even better. Thus, when one considers that future
automobiles will run exclusively on electricity, it becomes clear why
the math must be altered to grasp the efficiency levels of automobiles.
The time of calculating miles per gallon will soon be replaced by the
era of calculating cost per mile (CPM). Will you be ready?
